Australian Resident Return Visa

As a permanent resident, you can live and work indefinitely in Australia. However your permanent resident visa allows you to leave and re-enter Australia multiple times during the initial 5 years from grant.

If you wish to leave Australia after the initial 5 year period, you must have Resident Return Visa (RRV) to enable you to return to Australia.

RRV should be obtained before you depart from Australia and if you leave without RRV, you may not be allowed to return to Australia.

You may qualify for:

  • 5 year RRV, if you have spent two of the last five years in Australia. If you have been absent from Australia you must show substantial cultural, business, employment or personal ties benefiting Australia and compelling reasons for your absence.
  • 3 months RRV, if you have been absent from Australia for more than 3 months and show compelling and compassionate reasons for your departure.
